Exercise Rehabilitation 

Rehabilitation is the process of regaining full normal function following an injury and aims to restore overall strength and mobility of the affected body site. This is achieved through the application of specific exercises. 
 
Rehabilitation is an important part of the clinical treatment process following an injury and is key to regaining pre-injury levels of daily function or sports performance. A full and personalised rehabilitation program is essential to ensure full recovery and return to optimal performance either at work or leisure. It is enormously important to understand that every patient is different and will respond to different clinical treatments and rehabilitation exercises at different rates. 
Exercise rehabilitation is an integral part of the management of patients at The Moballise Physiotherapy Clinic. The ultimate goal of an exercise rehabilitation program with us is to improve your physical function. 
 
However, the means by which this is achieved is also important. While the rehabilitation exercises form the mainstay of the rehabilitation process, clinical treatment may be necessary alongside. There is a significant component of patient counselling and education within the rehabilitation program to ensure compliance and understanding. We want our patients to recover and rehabilitate fully with a full knowledge of how to maintain their body to prevent future return visits! 
The biomechanical analysis of rehabilitation exercises within a treatment programme has gained a large amount of attention in sports medicine and orthopaedic research as well as in clinical practice. 
 
Advances in the understanding of the biomechanical factors of rehabilitation have led to the enhancement of rehabilitation programs that place minimal strain on specific healing structures while returning the injured patient to optimal function as quickly and safely as possible.

Ensure that an extensive list of absolute and relative contraindications to rehabilitation exercise and exercise testing carefully considered. 
Establish individual goals early in the rehabilitation program. The goals will be developed by the patient with our guidance. The goals of the rehabilitation programme will be realistic and include a reward system.

A careful medical and exercise assessment will be conducted prior to starting exercise rehabilitation programme. 
Your rehabilitation will be carefully graduated to build you back to optimal performance either at work or play! This is of utmost importance to avoid potential further injury and to promote programme adherence. 
Your progress will be continually monitored to ensure successful recovery and rehabilitation is achieved. Careful progression of your rehabilitation programme will be effected in order to continue improvement 
It is essential that the patient keeps an exercise diary or logbook to help chart progress and to act as an aid memoire following discharge. 
Successful completion of your rehabilitation programme will result in maintenance of lifelong physical, as well as psychosocial, mobility habits. 
Your rehabilitation programme should begin as soon as possible after the activating event. At The Moballise Physiotherapy Clinic we believe it is best to see our patients after around 72 hours of the initial injury. With very rare exceptions, all of the rehabilitation exercises will be pain free. 
There are three different stages within rehabilitation that are important to stick to when planning a successful return to pain-free daily life and/or sporting activities: 
 
Early stage rehabilitation 
gentle exercise allowing for the damaged tissue to heal. 
 
Mid stage rehabilitation 
progressive loading to the muscles, tendons, bones or ligaments. This develops tensile strength producing a healed tissue that will be able to withstand the stresses and strains of everyday life and activity of increasing intensity. 
 
Late stage rehabilitation 
functional exercises and drills to improve your strength, flexibility and stamina, and to stress the new tissues to ensure the body is ready for pain-free daily performance.
